Overseas training, which is a major content of global education that our school emphasizes, has been gradually resumed in each department.
The New York training was successfully attended by second-year students Brand Management in December, and by third-year students from the same department in February, whose training had been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The training mainly consisted of a special seminar at one of the world's leading fashion schools, the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), and an industry tour, visiting a PR company showroom and a long-established vintage shop. They experienced the real fashion business firsthand.
At FIT, the first thing that is held is a lecture on the history of clothing. Explanations will be provided while actually showing archival works from each era. In the main lecture that follows, lectures are given on topics such as VMD and branding, and students tackle the challenges presented and formulate their own plans.
At the Costume Lab, which has a collection of 100,000 costumes and 1 million materials, curators will give lectures on the history of clothing. He explained the archives of Chanel, Dior, Balenciaga, Valentino, etc.
During the industry tour, participants visit PR company showrooms and long-established vintage shops to learn about the real industry situation.
At the end of the training, students presented their pop-up shop plans and brand plans. We will receive feedback from the professor. At the end of the course, each student was awarded a certificate of completion.
Of course, I enjoyed not only the training but also my free time. I was active in shopping and researching places like Times Square, SoHo, Nolita, Macy's Department Store, and Dover Street New York.
I also really enjoyed New York, visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Museum, and the gorgeous Christmas displays.
At OSAKA INSTITUTE OF FASHION 's Brand Management, a New York training program is included in the regular curriculum for second-year students. With the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, educational content at international standards to develop global talent is being resumed one after another. Look forward to seeing OIF students succeed overseas.
